1966 – NW Gas Board HQ wins Civic Trust Award
The first Civic Trust award was won for the North Western Gas Board Headquarters in Altrincham. The brief was given in December 1962 and the £1m building completed in December 1964.
The awards scheme was set up in 1959 to encourage the very best in architecture and environmental design. Since then 90 of our projects, including conservation and new-build, have been recognised by these awards, including Aberdeen Music Hall, Enterprise South Liverpool Academy, Creative Arts Hub, City College Norwich, Royal Opera House, London and Mount Street, Mayfair.
